Next Cover: Probably ‘Stop This Train’ by John Mayer

I’m currently learning the guitar part for Stop This Train by John Mayer (a killer song by the way, I love it!). When I’m done pounding the guitar part into my head, I’m going to start rehearsing the singing part (yay!). But don’t expect it to be released soon, it’s a hard song to learn, the guitar part makes my fingers break. :P

Here’s the song by the way:

Total Renewal

This might come as a shock for you now but I want you to know that I’ve cleaned out the wordpress of old posts and changed the aim of the blog totally. Instead of being a blog about singing, I’ve changed it to focus on my music and on my artistry.. So don’t expect no more singing topics! From now on it’s only about me and the music I’m making.

Changes:

  • New Theme
  • New Title
  • Removed menu items
  • Removed categories
  • Removed loads of posts
  • Renamed the Social dropdown to Links and added my SoundCloud to the list
  • Updated the About Me page

Well, that’s a lot of changes.. But as you probably know, nothing lasts forever and the times they are a-changin’. Thanks for your understanding people!

First Ever Cover Online: Free Fallin’

I’m very excited to announce that I’m done with my first recorded Cover, and the song of choice was Free Fallin’, John Mayer style (original composer was Tom Petty). I’m extremely satisfied with the result, even though I made a few mistakes throughout the song. Please take a listen and don’t forget to comment! Thanks a bunch!

Singing And Playing An Instrument Simultaneously?

This has always been kind of a hassle for me, ever since I got my guitar(8 mothns ago) I’ve tried singing along to my playing but to no avail, I think I have quite the shitty sense of rhythm to be honest *haha. Are there any kinds of techniques one can use? Exercises or practices that would ease the process or is it just something that you just do? I heard that you could read a book while playing a guitar, I thought that was a kinda funny thing to do but it does make sense somehow.. This is also a bit strange to me ’cause I’m pretty confident in figuring out the meter in songs, I just have problems translating that into the guitar rhythm. I guess I have to practice a lot more. :P

Good Songwriting, How The Hell Do They Do It?

Songwriting is not easy, I’ve got to confess that. So far, I’ve written about 7 or 8 songs but only two of them are complete, the rest of them are scrapped or just left to gather dust. Sure, seven songs are not much of a library but the things is; it’s so darn hard to come up with things to write about. Some people say that you should write about past experiences and events, but (to be honest) my life is not very exciting and I rarely do things that are memorable. It’s just that time of life I suppose. There are some really good songwriters out there and I’m all for taking part of their secret, if they ever share it with the public.

The people I’m thinking of are Ray LaMontagne, Damien Rice and Justin Vernon. They have this way of making the most simple lyrics become the most interesting and very suave. Even though some of the lyrics really doesn’t make sense to anyone else but them, but they sing the words with such melody and passion that you can feel the emotion regardless of coherence. Like the sound of the words themselves are beautiful enough, like a poem.

Maybe that’s their secret? I don’t know.

Get Creative – Some Quick Tips

Find yourself having the writers block? Or just having a hard time finding inspiration or feeling inspirational? I get that sometimes too, but there are a few things that have proven to be very effective against this. Below are a few things that you can try out yourself when you’re totally lost!

  • Association game – This is a quite simple activity that could get your creativity and association going. Just pick a random word from a dictionary or use a random word generator on the web. When you have picked a word, name the first things that you can think of that is connected to that word. Take a good ten or twenty seconds to associate freely, then pick the next word and do the same things.
  • Story Making – Take a random comic or movie that is in a foreign language. Then make up the story yourself throughout the movie or comic. Obviously pick a movie or comic that you haven’t seen or read before and don’t use subtitles.
  • Take a good walk around your neighborhood, then write down points of interest (people, places, background events etc.). Then use the list to write a small story about the items that you’ve collected.

These are the things that I usually do when I find myself standing at the same spot for hours, hope they will prove useful for you too. ;)

Wanna Learn To Play Piano

I wanna, I wanna! But I’m already busy with the guitar and singing. In addition to that, I’ve got lots of stuff going on in school right now so I’m up to my ears with work. I guess I’ll wait a bit until I start learning how to play..

Why Give Up?

So, there is this guy whom after two years of struggling with his voice he decided to quit. He made a “farewell” post on the forums to let us all know that he’s made a decision. Luckily, a great part of the community grouped up to protest against this decision, me included. He wanted to give up after two years of hard work but we just didn’t want to see this great  potential getting wasted so we eventually got him to stay strong and continue on, which I’m glad for.

I mean, why? Why would you want to quit after two years of hard work? Some say that they just can’t cut it and it’s been a waste of time. Waste of time? It’s only a waste of time if you give up. Keep up the good work and you will eventually get there, even if it takes you five or ten years, those years will pay up and it won’t be a waste of time when you finally realize that you have succeeded doing what you never thought you would succeed doing ten years ago. Determination and faith is your best friend if you want success.

I’ve been singing for a year now and sure, I’ve been thinking about giving up, everyone does. But I still take the above point into consideration. If I just continue on I will eventually break the ice and it all will seem so easy and natural but until then I just have to keep going, there is no going back now, not after one whole year of hard work. It’s always hard before it becomes easy.

Just don’t give up when you are half-way through, you will never forgive yourself when you realize how close you were to success.
